HeatNIC joins PRASEG to accelerate the UK’s heat decarbonisation journey
The Heat Networks Industry Council (HeatNIC) is pleased to announce that it has joined the All-Party Parliamentary Renewable & Sustainable Energy Group (PRASEG), creating new opportunities to engage with parliamentarians and contribute industry expertise to the development of policies that support heat network deployment and heat decarbonisation.
Heat networks are a vital part of the UK’s journey to a net zero future, providing an efficient, flexible and resilient way to decarbonise heat at scale. By capturing and distributing locally available heat from sources such as energy-from-waste facilities, data centres, industry, rivers and geothermal resources, heat networks can unlock energy that would otherwise be wasted. In doing so, they support the development of a smarter, more integrated energy system, reduce reliance on volatile international fossil fuel markets, and help deliver affordable, low-carbon heating for homes, businesses and public buildings across the country.
As a joint industry and government forum, HeatNIC works with the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, ministers and leading industry organisations to accelerate the deployment of heat networks across the UK. Joining PRASEG provides a valuable opportunity to strengthen dialogue with parliamentarians and support policies that enable the growth of low-carbon heat infrastructure.
PRASEG brings together Parliamentarians committed to advancing the energy transition through cross-party dialogue and collaboration between policymakers, industry, civil society and academia. Through its membership, HeatNIC will contribute its expertise and industry insight to discussions on decarbonising heat and delivering a cleaner, more resilient energy system.
HeatNIC looks forward to engaging with PRASEG’s officers, including Polly Billington MP (Chair), Lord Callanan (Vice Chair), Wera Hobhouse MP (Vice Chair) and Uma Kumaran MP (Vice Chair), as well as the wider PRASEG membership and stakeholder network.
